Cursillos Christianity Movement

The Cursillos Christianity Movement (MCC), known as Cursillistas, is an ecclesial movement within the Catholic Church, which emerged between 1940 and 1949 at the Monastery of San Honorato in Mallorca.

The origin of the Movement lies in courses designed to prepare the faithful from Mallorca who were going to attend the national pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 1948. Among the founding members are laypeople and priests such as Eduardo Bonnín Aguiló, Mons. Sebastián Gayá Aguilera, and D. Juan Capó Bosch.

The MCC expanded to the peninsula in 1953, starting in Valencia, and quickly spread throughout Spain thanks to local initiatives. In subsequent years, the methodology employed by the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement spread worldwide.

The Cursillos de Cristiandad has a very defined methodology divided into three parts:

  1. Pre-Cursillo: Preparation and selection of candidates.
  2. Cursillo: A three-day retreat with talks and community activities.
  3. Post-Cursillo: Meetings called Ultreyas. The word Ultreya comes from a greeting among pilgrims meaning “keep going!”, evoking perseverance and community. Post-cursillo meetings are moments of unity where participants share their faith and experiences.

The Cross is an essential symbol in all phases of the Cursillos. The Cross represents Christ's sacrifice and love, and is a fundamental tool to inspire participants' faith. It symbolizes redemption and eternal life, supporting spiritual transformation.
