Advent candles meaning

In the season of Advent we basically prepare ourselves for the coming, for the Birth of the Child Jesus . Every year we prepare in our churches and homes during Advent for the celebration of Christmas.

Advent is the first season of the Liturgical Year. During this period prepare our heart and soul for the Birth of the Child Jesus.

To prepare our body and soul for Christmas we must keep two words very much in mind: penance and joy.

Purple advent candles, penance

To receive the Child Jesus in our hearts and in our souls, it is very important to purify ourselves. Cleanse our body and mind of all the sins we have committed throughout the year.

For this reason, it is essential that we honestly reflect on our mistakes and failures, on the sins we have committed.

Purple Advent candles are a reminder of the penance we must carry out for the forgiveness of sins. Only by making up for our sins with penance can we have a clean heart and soul so that the Child Jesus may illuminate them with his presence.

We will light a purple Advent candle on the first Sunday of Advent. We will light the second purple Advent candle on the second Sunday of Advent, and finally, we will light the third purple Advent candle on the fourth and last Sunday of Advent.

The season of Advent is not only penance, it is not only reflection. The Birth of the Child Jesus is a fundamental event in the lives of all of us. We should celebrate it with joy.
