How to burn grain incense in your Church?
Burning incense in the Church is a part of the liturgical celebrations. The process of incensing, or burning incense, is very simple if you have the right tools.
The use of:
- Charcoal Catholic Church, if possible easily burned.
- Tongs to hold the coal.
- Candle, lighter, match or any other element that can emit flame.
- Incense spoon.
- Censer.
- Grain incense.
- Incense boat.
The process to burn incense in the Church, procession, or liturgical celebration is fundamentally based on burning charcoal, incense and a flame. But it is recommended the use of all the indicated elements to avoid possible burns and make the most of the incense.
The first step is to light the incense. To do this, the carbon tablet is held with the pints. With the lighter, or another similar element, we light the liturgical charcoal tablet until it is incandescent. Once we can perceive that the tablet is hot, we deposit it in the censer or similar container. If the coal has a concave part, that is, a part with a lowered shape, it is interesting to put it upwards so that it serves as a deposit for the incense.
Once the coal is placed correctly, we must put the incense that we consider appropriate on the coal. For this we will use the spoon. We will take the incense from the incense boat and place it on top of the coal. The amount of incense to use depends on:
- The characteristics of incense burning. Depending on the aroma, the type of incense and the smoke it generates, one quantity or another should be used. It is recommended to start with small amounts and increase the dose depending on the results.
- Duration of the liturgical celebration or event in which you want to use the incense.
- Capacity and characteristics of the censer or container used to burn the incense.
