Buy breastplate for priest, what size to choose?
When buying breastplates for priests, like clergyman shirts, it is important to take into account the different sizes that are for sale. The size of the Roman collar breastplates is the same as the size of the clergyman shirts. That is, if a priest wears a size 42 shirt, a size 42 breastplate should fit him perfectly.
The size of the pecherines, like the priest's shirts, is defined by the perimeter of the base of the neck of the priest who is going to wear it. For this reason it is important to measure the base of the neck to know the size of the breastplate that it is necessary to buy.
To know the exact size to buy, you can use different methods:
Pecherín size for priest with cleriman shirt size
The simplest method is to wear a cleriman's shirt of the priest who will wear the pecherín. Look at the size indicated on the shirt.
If the size is expressed in numbers 42, 44, ... known as European sizing) you can use it directly to buy the breastplate.
If the size of the shirt is expressed in letters (S, L,... known as American sizing) you can use the following equivalence but we recommend that you use an alternative method that we indicate below. In this type of garment, a small variation can cause the ornament to not feel good and even make it uncomfortable to wear.
Size L would be equivalent to a size 40 (approximately).
Size XL would be equivalent to a size 42 (approximately).
Size XXL (2XL) would be equivalent to a size 44 (approximately).
Size XXXL (3XL) would be equivalent to a size 46 or 48 (approximately).
Priest breastplate carving with measuring tape
The tape measure is a very useful tool for measuring dimensions related to priestly clothing. Its main advantage is that it can easily measure perimeters since it is a totally flexible element. Before starting the measurement, it is important to say that it is advisable that two people participate in the process, that is, that one person uses the tape measure to measure the neck of the priest who is going to wear the pecherín.
To discover the size that is needed for the breastplate with a tape measure, all we have to do is the following:
- Place the beginning of the measuring tape on the front part of the neck, under the Adam's apple.
- Move the tape in such a way that it goes all the way around the neck.
- Join the ribbon at the front of the neck. Depending on the taste of the priest, move the union of the ribbon to achieve a more or less adjusted effect.
Priest breastplate size without measuring tape or shirt
Sometimes it may happen that we do not have a tape measure or a clergyman shirt. If this is the case, we can use any type of thread or scrap of fabric to measure the neck.
The method is exactly the same as that used with a tape measure. The only caveat is that once the measurement has been taken and the joining point marked, the thread or scrap of fabric is stretched and its length is measured with a ruler or meter.
