Decoration of the Cross reminder of First Communion

The Cross and customizable First Communion sheet is basically decorated with two religious elements:

• Eucharistic Elements

The memory of First Communion has several classic elements of the Eucharist.

Symbols of the Body of Christ, the Sacred Form, such as the ears of wheat, the bread and JHS. Also symbols of the Blood of Christ such as the bunches of grapes.

• Reproductions of paintings from the life of Christ

Reproductions of classic paintings on the life of Jesus are the second group of decorative elements that we find in the First Communion reminder.

The images of the paintings are found in the upper part of the Cross and in the upper part of the sheet.

Three paintings by the same artist, Duccio di Buoninsegna, are presented. One of the most important Italian painters of the late s. XIII and beginning of the s. XIX.

The three works produced are part of the Maestà, a tempera painting on panel made between 1308 and 1311, considered the painter's masterpiece. It is currently kept in the Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana del Duomo de Siena. The three pieces reproduced form part of twenty-six scenes from the Passion of Christ that are reproduced on the back of the panel.

The first of these reproductions, located at the top of the Cross, recreates the central part of the well-known work "Last Supper" by Duccio.

The second, located on the left side of the Cross (looking at the Cross from the front) and in the upper part of the plate, recreates the tempera on wood known as "Washing of the feet".

The third and last scene, reproduced on the right side of the Cross, is a recreation of the work "Apparition of Christ in the circle of his apostles".
