San Julián de Samos Monastery, information

The town of Samos, one of the best-known stages of the Camino Frances de Santiago as it passes through Galicia, was founded around the existence of the Monastery of San Julián and Santa Basilisa de Samos.

The building, whose original construction is attributed to San Martín de Braga in the 6th century, is located on the banks of the River Sarria, very close to the city of Lugo. The Monastery, which was originally known by the name of "Sámanos", has undergone numerous renovations during its existence. An important extension was carried out during the Romanesque years (8th century) and different reconstructions and extensions during the Baroque and Neoclassical periods.

The building, one of the most important and oldest in the Galician community, has outstanding elements of the most varied architectural styles:
