The Prayer Card of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a small representation of Our Lady, designed to be kept in a wallet, purse, pocket, etc.

Connection Between the Holy Card of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Carmelite Scapular

The Carmelite scapular and the Holy Card of Our Lady of Mount Carmel are closely related. The image of the Virgin on this card holds the Carmelite scapular, a sacramental that dates back to the 13th century.

In the year 1251, the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Simon Stock and gave him a scapular as a sign of protection and salvation. Our Lady told Saint Simon that those who wore the scapular with true devotion would be under her protection and made three promises:

  • Promise of Salvation: Those who die wearing the scapular will not suffer eternal fire.
  • Protection in Life: The Virgin protects those who wear it, interceding for them in times of danger.
  • Sabbatine Privilege: The Virgin promised to release from purgatory, on the first Saturday after their death, those who wear the scapular with devotion and fulfill the spiritual conditions set by the Church.

Prayer on the Holy Card of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The prayer on this Holy Card dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a supplication for intercession and spiritual protection.

The prayer first exalts the Virgin Mary under her title of Carmel, highlighting her as the "Temple of the Divine Word," acknowledging her role as the mother of Jesus, the incarnate Word of God. It is a recognition of her purity and holiness.

The title "Star of the Sea" (Stella Maris) refers to the promise made by the Virgin Mary to the Carmelite community when, persecuted by Saracens, they decided to leave Mount Carmel. Our Lady appeared to them and assured them of her protection, guiding them safely across the sea to Europe.

In the following phrase, the faithful ask the Virgin to guard and protect her devotees both in life and at the moment of death, ensuring her intercession before God. In this way, she fulfills the promises made to Saint Simon Stock.

The prayer ends with a direct plea for the salvation of the supplicant’s soul, placing full trust in the protection and intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
