The image of the Virgin of Lourdes is made of pulp wood of the highest quality. This piece of religious imagery from Olot is available in sizes ranging from 50 to 160 cm. The image of the Virgin is dressed in a white tunic with golden decorations. His hands are placed in a prayer position. In her right hand she carries a rosary. His head is covered and adorned with a metal halo.
The Virgin of Lourdes, known in France as Notre Dame de Lourdes , appeared in the grotto of Massabielle , on the banks of the Gave river, on the outskirts of the town of Lourdes.
In 1858, the 14-year-old girl Bernadette Soubirous received a visit from the Virgin Mary. Since then, millions of faithful have made a pilgrimage to this holy place and drink the miraculous water that flows from the nearby springs.
It was not until 1862 that Pope Pius IX authorized the local bishop to allow the veneration of the Virgin of Lourdes. As a result of which a basilica was built to honor and glorify his memory.
Bernadette Soubirous , the seer of Our Lady of Lourdes, was canonized as a Saint by Pius XI on December 8, 1933, during the Redemption Jubilee.
