Paschal Candle with Relief

Paschal Candle Decoration 2025B: Paschal Candle with two bands imitating the crown of thorns from Christ's martyrdom at the top and bottom.

In the central area, the Paschal Candle is decorated with a red background Cross with golden details. The Cross is adorned with five reliefs representing the wounds and injuries that Jesus suffered during His Crucifixion: the wounds on His hands, the wounds on His feet, the wound on His side, and the injuries inflicted by the crown of thorns.

Between the arms of the Cross are the four digits that make up the year 2025, arranged from left to right and top to bottom.

Above and below the Cross are the Alpha and the Greek letter Omega, the first and last letters of the alphabet. These letters on the Paschal Candle symbolize that Christ is the beginning and the end of all things. This symbolism comes from Jesus Himself, who in the Book of Revelation says:

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Rev 22:13).

The design is completed with the figure of a lamb holding a white banner with a red Cross. This representation of Christ is justified in the Bible, where we read:

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”

(Saint John 1:29)

This expression is based on the sacrifices that the Jews performed during their Jewish Passover, as recorded in the Old Testament. The Jews offered a lamb as a sacrifice for the atonement of sins.

Jesus is the Lamb of God who would sacrifice Himself for the forgiveness of the sins of all men and women. By dying and rising again, Christ fulfills and surpasses this sacrifice, becoming the ultimate Paschal Lamb.

The white banner symbolizes Christ's victory over death and sin. White is the liturgical color of Easter Sunday. The color white represents the light that overcomes darkness, the life that emerges from death.

The red Cross is a reminder of the blood shed during the Passion, which brought redemption to the world.

The reliefs of the Paschal Candle are handmade in paraffin with a polychrome finish.
