The Cross symbolizes victory over evil and bears the letters C S S M L and N D S M D, which mean "The Holy Cross be my light" and "Let not the dragon be my guide." The initials C S P B represent "Cross of the Holy Father Benedict." Around the Cross, the letters form a phrase that warns Satan. It also includes the term Pax, a symbol of the Benedictines.
