Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary
The name of Santa Ana comes from the Hebrew language and means " full of grace ".
Santa Ana was a very believing and pious woman like her husband, San Joaquín. They were both prominent pardons within their community. San Joaquín and Santa Ana were admired by their neighbors for being pious people and dedicated to God.
Santa Ana and San Joaquín had a good life but they had been denied offspring. Both of them were deeply sorry that they could not conceive a son or a daughter.
Despite being a very loved couple by neighbors and relatives, there were some people who criticized Santa Ana and San Joaquín. These people said that if they could not have children it was because God had punished them.
Such statements deeply saddened both Santa Ana and San Joaquin. Both Saints believed that they had done something wrong in their actions. That, perhaps, his works had not been good in the eyes of God.
San Joaquín wanted to meditate on his life and his actions. For this reason he retired to the mountains to pray. Santa Ana knew perfectly well the reason why her husband had retired to meditate. The pain that caused him that they could not have children saddened his heart.
Saint Anne, like many other times in her life, piously prayed for God to grant them a son. If Saint Joachim and she could have a son or daughter, they would educate him on the path of holiness, on the path of service to God.
At that moment, an Angel appeared to Santa Ana and told her: “Ana, the Lord has looked at your tears; You will conceive and give birth, and the fruit of your womb will be blessed throughout the world."
Shortly after, the Angel visited St. Augustine in the mountains and gave him the same message. St. Augustine, full of joy, returned home. Santa Ana and her husband were full of joy, they knew that their life was worthy of being rewarded by God. Their great longing would finally be fulfilled, they would have a boy or a girl.
Soon after, Santa Ana became pregnant. At nine months a beautiful baby girl was born. A girl who was named after Maria.
