The martyrdom of Saint Barbara

As we know from tradition, Santa Barbara was a woman ahead of her time. He was born into a family with deep pagan roots. His father, Dioscorus, a man of strong temperament and little friend of the true faith, tried to instill pagan beliefs in Santa Bárbara.

Santa Barbara had discovered Christ, and her beliefs were clear. The Saint was very clear about her convictions and her father, a man of rude character, was not going to change the feelings of her heart.

After a long time, Dioscorus, tired of trying to convince Santa Barbara to abandon the Christian religion, decided to punish her. I send Santa Barbara to a tower from which she could not get out. The tower only had two windows and one door.

They locked up Santa Barbara in that lonely tower. The door was closed. There was no way for Santa Barbara to escape from that confinement.

Santa Barbara did not mind being in that tower, her faith was strong and her heart pure. But she wanted to feel the closeness of Christ to a greater extent, so she convinced one of her jailers to make her a third window. This third window, once built, served Santa Barbara as a symbol of the Holy Trinity.

When Dioscorus realized that despite the punishment, Santa Bárbara continued with her beliefs, he ordered that her head be cut off. Diocorus was a terrible man and did not hesitate for a second to sacrifice his daughter's life.

After the death of Santa Bárbara, the father also passed away. As Dioscorus walked away from the place where his daughter had been executed, lightning struck him. Causing his death instantly.

For this reason, popularly, when there are big storms and thunder and lightning strike, people pray to Santa Bárbara.
