Saint Benedict bracelet meaning

The Saint Benedict bracelet is composed of several religious elements of great significance.

  • The medal and the Cross of Saint Benedict

The bracelet is decorated with ten medals of Saint Benedict. On one side is the classic Benedictine medal with the figure of the Saint, while on the other side is the Cross of Saint Benedict.

The Saint Benedict medal is composed of several elements. In the central part, the Saint can be seen dressed in a monastic tunic, with a halo around his head symbolizing holiness and a Cross in his hand. On either side, a raven and a chalice with poisoned wine represent divine protection. It also includes the inscription "Crux patris benedicti" and "Ejus in obitu nro praesentia muniamus," which means "May we be strengthened by His presence in our death."

The Cross of Saint Benedict symbolizes the victory over evil and temptation. The Cross of Saint Benedict bears the letters C S S M L and N D S M D, meaning "The Holy Cross be my light" and "Let not the dragon be my guide." In the spaces of the Cross are the initials C S P B, which means "Cross of the Holy Father Benedict." Around the Cross, the letters form V R S N S M V and S M Q L I V B, which translates to "Begone Satan, do not suggest vain things to me, the cup you offer is evil; drink your poison." Finally, it includes the term Pax, a symbol of the Benedictine order.

  • Our Lady of Mercy

Our Lady of Mercy is a Marian devotion that represents the Virgin Mary holding the lifeless body of her Son Jesus in her lap. In this prevalent representation, the Virgin embraces her Son after the Descent from the Cross.

Our Lady of Mercy represents a mother's love for her dead Son. A reminder of the indescribable pain a parent feels when losing a child. But it is also a message of hope. Despite the suffering, the Virgin knew that her Son's death was necessary to fulfill the word of God.
