Brief Biography of Saint John XXIII

Saint John XXIII, whose secular name was Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, was born on November 25, 1881, in Sotto il Monte, Italy.

He was born into a humble farming family as the fourth of thirteen children.

From an early age, he displayed a strong religious vocation, entering the Bergamo seminary at the age of eleven. A few years later, in 1904, he was ordained as a priest.

During his ecclesiastical career, he held several significant positions, including Apostolic Nuncio in Turkey, Greece, and France.

In 1953, he was appointed Cardinal and Patriarch of Venice. He carried out his work with great humility, earning a reputation as a kind and approachable person.

On October 28, 1958, at the age of 77, he was elected Pope, choosing the name John XXIII.

His pontificate marked a new era for the Catholic Church.

Saint John XXIII is known as the "Good Pope" because of his affable character, humanity, and closeness to the faithful.

He was previously beatified in 2000 by Pope John Paul II.
