Paso de Semana Santa of the Descent of Jesus, description

Step of Holy Week of the Descent of Jesus made of wood pulp with an imitation marble base. Height 160cm.

In this passage of Holy Week we can see how Saint Joseph of Arimathea, Saint Nicodemus, Saint John descend the body of Christ from the Cross after his death. They support the body of Jesus on a canvas while the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene and Mary of Cleopas contemplate them with deep pain.
At the feet of the images are the nails and the crown of thorns used to give agony and finally death to Jesus Christ.

All the images that make up the Paso de Semana Santa are made of pulp wood and have glass eyes, which gives them a high degree of realism. The clothes of the figures are topped with golden borders.

The images have a size of 160 centimeters and are configured in three groups of images:

The first group of the Paso de Semana Santa is made up of the Cross, Saint Nicodemus on a ladder and the dead body of Jesus held on a canvas by Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Joseph of Arimathea.

The second group is formed by the figure of Mary Magdalene who is kneeling before Jesus.

The third group is formed by a desolate Virgin Mary and Mary of Cleofás.

The configuration of the images in three groups allows the purchase of the Paso de Semana Santa already assembled on a platform or purchase it loose and assemble it to the taste of the buyer. There is also the option of obtaining the set in a staggered manner, first one of the parts and then the others.

The Descent of Jesus

After his arrest, Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect-procurator. Which condemned Jesus to carry the Cross on which he was going to be crucified.
Jesus dragged the Cross enduring the ridicule and derision of the Roman soldiers.
When he reached Golgotha, he was crucified between two thieves.
After innumerable sufferings caused by the nails that held him to the cross and by the wounds received, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of God, died on the cross for all of us.
After his death, Saint Joseph of Arimathea, rich and illustrious man, clandestine follower of Jesus, member of the supreme court of the Jews and decurion of the Roman Empire; He asked Pilate for the Body of Jesus so that he could bury it in a burial place on his property.
Once permission was obtained, Saint Joseph of Arimathea agreed with Saint Nicodemus, a rich Pharisee, teacher in Israel and member of the Sanhedrin; go to Golgotha to lower Jesus from the Cross.
There were Saint John the Evangelist, the disciple most loved by Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene and Mary of Cleophas who contemplated the dead body of Our Lord Jesus.
Saint Nicodemus, Saint John and Saint Joseph of Arimathea placed a ladder behind the Cross. They went up with some linen cloths and tied the Body of Jesus under the arms and knees to the trunk of the Cross. Then, they started pulling out the nails, hammering them from behind. The nails came out easily due to the great wounds that had been caused to Jesus. Once the left nail was removed, they let that arm gently descend over the body. Supported by the left arm, they carried out the same operation with the right arm of Jesus.
Once the arms were freed, Saint Nicodemus, Saint John and Saint Joseph of Arimathea took the ladder to the part in front of the Cross, supporting it almost straight and very close to Jesus. They untied the canvas from the top and hung it on one of the hooks they had previously placed on the ladder. Once the first canvas was attached, they repeated the process with the others. Little by little they lowered the Body down the stairs until it was within arm's reach.
Having completely lowered the Holy Body, they wrapped it from the knees to the waist and placed it in the arms of his Mother, full of pain and love. (scene from "Pieta").
