The Byzantine icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help

The Virgin is shown holding the Child Jesus, and her gaze towards the viewer conveys a combination of compassion and wisdom. The letters "MP ΘY" above her head are abbreviations of the Greek "Μήτηρ Θεοῦ", which means "Mother of God".
The angels on the sides carry the instruments of the Passion, foreshadowing Jesus' future sacrifice, and the letters beside them represent their names: Saint Michael (ΜΡ ΘΥ) on the left and Saint Gabriel (ΟΑΜ) on the right.
