Saint Clare of Assisi, biography
Saint Clare was born in the city of Assisi in 1194. After knowing the message and works of Saint Francis of Assisi, at the age of 18 she took the habit of the Franciscan order. In that a new life begins, an existence of renunciation of material goods, of radical poverty and service to the poor and sick.
Under these guidelines, Saint Clare of Assisi begins the Second Franciscan Order: The Poor Clares, the Poor Ladies.
The new Franciscan Order quickly spread throughout Europe, creating convents in Spain, Bohemia, France, etc…
As history tells us, many were the achievements of Saint Clare of Assisi throughout her life. One of the main ones was that he got the Saracens to flee only with his prayer and showing a monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament.
Saint Clare died in San Damiano, very close to Assisi, in 1253. She was canonized only two years later by Alexander IV.
We celebrate his festivity on August 11.
