Chasuble with HeiQ Viroblock technology
HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03 is a textile technology developed by the company HeiQ Materials AG that has been awarded the Swiss Technology Award. It is applied to the fabrics of chasubles and other liturgical vestments during the manufacturing process.
Through the HeiQ Viroblock application process, liturgical garments acquire antiviral, antimicrobial and hypoallergenic properties . It is a non-toxic and non-irritating technology, 100% safe and sustainable as it is developed with INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) approved ingredients, biobased (72% biobased carbon, 26% hydrocarbon and 2% microsilver) and recycled.
HeiQ Viroblock has two main active components: antimicrobial and antiviral technology with silver chloride (a chemical compound that activates broad-spectrum antiviral and antimicrobial reactions by attracting the virus and permanently binding its sulfur groups) and fatty vesicle technology (also known as liposomes that destroy viruses by depleting the viral membrane of its cholesterol content).
The clothing and ornaments treated with the HeiQ Viroblock process comply with:
- The European REACH regulation that regulates the production and use of chemical substances and their potential impacts on humans and nature.
- The United States federal FIFRA Act that regulates the distribution, sale and use of pesticides to protect human health and the environment.
- The independent OEKOTEX® certificate that verifies that there are no harmful substances in textiles or in the manufacturing phases of fabrics and garments.
- Approval by the ZDHC program that certifies that the treated garments have greater sustainability and the use of safe chemical products, restricting the use of certain substances and verifying the quality of wastewater.
- The independent Bluesign® approval system that certifies that all stages of the garment manufacturing process minimize the impact on the environment, protecting people's health.
- The European regulation BPR (Biocidal Products Regulation) that regulates the marketing and use of biocides that are used to protect people and animals against harmful organisms, such as pests or bacteria.
- The orders issued for the EPA (United States Government Protection Agency) that promotes health and the environment in the United States.
Liturgical vestments with HeiQ Viroblock against coronavirus
The coronavirus is a global pandemic that has affected every country in the world to a greater or lesser extent. Numerous studies show that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes covid-19, remains active for a variable time depending on the different surfaces.
Liturgical vestments made of polyester, cotton, etc… are no exception. The coronavirus can remain active for hours and even days.
Textile garments treated with HeiQ Viroblock are a great barrier to prevent the spread of the virus, since they reduce the ability to spread the coronavirus from a few minutes.
The latest studies on the capacity of garments treated with HeiQ Viroblock against the SARS-CoV-2 virus carried out by the Doherty Institute, an internationally recognized Australian institution, offer encouraging results.
Data shows that garments can significantly reduce the activity time of the coronavirus. Deadlines were cut from several days to less than an hour. In other words, the HeiQ Viroblock treated clothing reduced the viral load of the corona virus by 99.99% after 30 minutes after starting the experiment. The experts clarify that these results are in laboratory conditions and that in everyday life the term could be slightly longer.
All the tests carried out complied with the ISO 18184 and ISO 20743 standards, so the veracity of the data obtained is guaranteed.
In any case, it represents an important milestone in the treatment of garments against the corona virus. Especially in places where it is common to share clothes such as parishes, churches, seminars, etc...
